Question 1

How often should I service my hot water unit?

Accepted Answer

For residential hot water units, an annual service is recommended. For high-demand commercial systems, servicing every 6 months is ideal to ensure optimal performance.

Question 2

What should I do if my hot water system shows an error code?

Accepted Answer

Note down the code exactly. Try turning the unit off and back on at the power point. If the code returns, call us — the code helps us diagnose and bring the right parts.

Question 3

Can you repair my hot water system?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we aim to repair first, not just push a replacement. We carry common spare parts to fix most issues on the spot.

Question 4

How much does a service cost?

Accepted Answer

A standard residential hot water service usually starts from $250–$350. We’ll confirm costs before we begin

Question 5

Do you install heat pump hot water systems?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we supply, install and service heat pump hot water systems. They’re a great option if you want lower running costs and efficient year-round hot water. We can help you choose the right unit for your home or business.

Question 6

How does a heat pump hot water system work?

Accepted Answer

A heat pump extracts heat from the surrounding air and uses it to heat water in the tank, rather than generating heat directly like a gas or electric element system. This makes it significantly more energy-efficient to run than a standard electric hot water system.

Question 7

Will a heat pump fit my switchboard, or do I need an upgrade?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the unit. Rinnai's plug-in range runs off a standard 10A power point with no switchboard upgrade needed. Larger units in the range need a dedicated 15A circuit. We check your switchboard capacity on-site before recommending a unit, so you're not paying for electrical work you don't need.

Question 8

What size tank do I need?

Accepted Answer

It comes down to household size and how your hot water use is spread across the day — a household that showers back-to-back in the morning has different peak demand to one spread across the day. Rinnai's range covers 180L up to 400L, and we help you size it based on your actual usage rather than just headcount.

Question 9

Can I run my heat pump on solar or off-peak power to save money?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can schedule heat pump hot water systems. If you have solar, we can set the unit to heat during daylight hours when your panels are generating. If you're on a time-of-use electricity plan, the same idea applies to off-peak windows. This is something we set up as part of installation.

Question 10

How much can I save compared to gas hot water?

Accepted Answer

We're regularly seeing households spending around $800 a year to heat water on gas. Switching to a heat pump on standard grid electricity cuts that considerably, and scheduling it around solar or off-peak rates can bring the payback period down to around two and a half to three years.
